Jo’s Marathon Blog – week 6 (eek!)

The week started with an “unexpected item in the baggage area” in the form of family visiting at short notice! We also had a meeting mid-week which meant swapping some sessions around. Knowing that the training programme is a guide and NOT carved in stone, we have managed to adapt our plans (we hope!) to accommodate everyone/everything happily, and I am looking forward to the long (14 mile) run planned for Sunday.

Monday was supposed to be my rest day, but I swapped it for Wednesday and hauled myself out for a hot and weary 3 miles before we shut the shop (I was aiming for 4 but had an upset tummy). The best result from this is that it totally eased the stiffness in my legs and hips after Sunday’s epic hills! In retrospect I don’t think Mondays are a wise day for a rest day, as a recovery run would be most more appropriate, so I may jiggle the plan going forward! Tuesday was down as an easy run, which was lucky because after the Running Group session I didn’t have anything left – I also realised it was my 8th day of running on the trot!

As we don’t want to be caught out on the day, we are quite keen to run some – if not all – of the marathon route during our training, so on Sunday we are going to do just that! I went past the Community Centre in Cowes a few weeks ago and got butterflies in my tummy even then, so actually starting a run from there will be quite something! We already have a small band of comrades who are going to keep us company on some of the route, so fingers crossed it goes as well as we’d like. This will also be our first training run with energy products, so wish us luck!
