It’s late November, and Jo and I have just been marshaling at the weekly parkrun. It was a foul morning in Appley Park, Ryde, yet close on 70 people braved the elements just to run. Normally when it’s chucking it down, the last thing sane folk want to do is go outdoors, but such weather cannot deter those who simply want to run.
Saying that, within 20 seconds of the start, a number of runners had already slipped up on the wet grass (although nothing more than a bit of pride was injured).
If you are planning to take part in the Isle of Wight parkruns at this time of year, it’s a very, very good idea to invest in some trail shoes. The grip should keep you upright whilst those around you may be belly sliding their way along. Although you will get muddy, and on a day like today, you will also get soaked through, you’ll do so in style!
